How to solve each kind of case, and what every word means.

Short Term / Long Term

Turn a recommendation into immediate and longer-term actions. Assign owners, metrics and dependencies, and distinguish stabilisation from structural repair.

Any recommendation
  • Short term: next few months
    • Quick wins
    • Stop the damage
  • Long term: one to three years
    • Structural fixes
    • Capabilities to build
Top layer: keep it fixed Below: adapt to the case

Watch out: Check the quick fix does not block the lasting one.

On a case

A delivery app is losing its riders.

Keep riders
  • Short term
    • Peak-hour incentives
    • Weekly payouts
  • Long term
    • Insurance and rest stops
    • Better route batching

Illustrative case. Figures and conditions below are assumptions for practice, not market data.

For rider attrition, first ask why riders leave and distinguish delayed payments from low earnings or unsafe work. The immediate aim is to stabilise service without locking in an uneconomic incentive programme.

In an illustrative two-week pilot, the payments lead resolves payout delays and the city manager tests peak-hour incentives. Track on-time payouts, retained riders and fulfilled orders against a comparable baseline. Set a budget cap and an end date before launch.

Over the following quarter, the operations lead tests route batching while the people team evaluates insurance and rest facilities. Insurance depends on an agreed provider and coverage; batching depends on reliable dispatch data. Expand only when rider retention improves without unacceptable delivery delays or contribution losses.
